Why So Serious?: Why Things Are Looking Up For Entrepreneurs

Times are hard. It would seem that financial crises are a common occurrence, and even the most powerful economies in the world are not immune to these financial upheavals. I’m writing this short piece to explain the how or why these things take place, or even methods and mindsets to overcome such trying obstacles to prosperity.

Despite all the apocalyptic messages on the walls, the wars for resources, mind-staggering poverty, global warming, and the growing difficulties of starting and running your own businesses, I really just want to help others like myself, entrepreneurs, professionals, bum visionaries and the like, to keep calm. I’ll give you a few reasons why, to boot.

CALM THE F___ DOWN! KITTENS! LOOK AT THEM!

The Future is Here and Now

Okay, so there aren’t any hoverboards and massively produced and utilized air cars all over the place, like people in the 50s through 80s thought our future would look like. We have not solved all the global problems that plague mankind and the planet; in fact, we probably made certain problems worse.

But, the technologies that do matter (please forgive me for belittling your hoverboard fantasies), the seminal mindstorms that will lead the way to even greater innovation and provide the solutions to what ails us and our world, it’s within sight. Here are a few choice examples:

Living Conditions are Better

This might not be immediately apparent, but there are aspects of our existence as humans that are improving as our civilization progresses. True, there are reasons not to believe this (I just mentioned a few in the second paragraph of this piece), but one has to sit back, and with a clear mind, count the beneficial and good things that humanity has worked hard to attain.

These are from the perspective of a first-world citizen, so please don’t attack me savagely if your republic/kingdom/territory isn’t as fortunate.

  • All humans have the same basic human rights (except maybe in certain oppressive and/or theocratic regimes) as opposed to slavery and discrimination based on race/gender/culture, etc.

  • Utilities accessible by homes (electricity, indoor plumbing, heating, internet, etc.) compared to outhouses/fetching water/two cans and a string

  • Education and access to information(sweet, sweet internet), a far cry from the 1900s when most of the world was illiterate

The Economy

Okay, so maybe the last two subtopics seem a little too remote and irrelevant to you, the entrepreneur. I’m not going to sugarcoat it, gloomier times are being forecast after the presidential elections, and the economy’s going to get even more challenging for all of us…

Do you think keeping an expression similar to that dog above is actually going to make things better, or at the least, make you feel a little better about the entire predicament? We know harder times are coming, and we know that a little belt-tightening, some sacrifices, and more effort are in order to weather down the storm and get back on track to prosperity.

Do remember that the best in people can come out in the worst of times, and these trials we face are opportunities at building character and broadening horizons.

The spirit of the enduring and pioneering entrepreneur shines brightest in moments like these, and we should not waste such an opportunity at bettering ourselves and finding new ways to prosper.

March on… but with a confident, unflappable smile.

Its like that old saying – take a view at 30,000 feet but keep your eyes on the details. We are living better even though the world seems to be falling apart. But, all that does is open up more opportunities for small businesses. One plight for one person is a money making opportunity for another to meet that need.

Absolutely. The world is an amazing place for most of us. Anyone who can access the internet who doesn’t think so should seriously reassess their perspectives.

      Thanks for sharing!
